Keep the impact. Reduce the footprint.

When selecting an ID card print solution, considering sustainability is crucial for both environmental impact and long-term economic benefits.

To PVC or not to PVC?

No surprise. Traditional PVC (polyvinyl chloride) cards are not biodegradable. To date, they remain the longest lasting solution for frequently used, heavy-duty ID cards, such as employee access badges. PVC cards are durable, resistant to wear and tear, and provide long-term identification durability.

However, and here comes the good news, for short-life ID cards, such as those used for events or corporate one-day visitors, sustainable PVC alternatives are hitting the market. These alternatives include biodegradable cards, made from corn-based PLA (polylactic acid) for example.

Sustainable and short-life. It’s a match.

Sustainable card materials  prevent single use cards  from contributing to long-term environmental pollution. Biodegradable and recyclable cards help minimise waste and support a circular economy, reducing the demand for new raw materials.

Finally, selecting ID card printers that facilitate using these new sustainable materials is essential. The printer needs to be able to handle eco-friendly cards at optimal performance and with high print quality.

Magicard now offers you a full range of eco-friendly ID card options.

At Magicard we have been heavily investigating the best possible optimal quality PVC alternatives for your short-life ID card needs. Over the past months, our R&D team in Weymouth finalised testing several solutions to be able to offer you a market leading eco-friendly and high quality colour printing solution.

As a result, in Europe, we are now kicking off our ECO range with a CR80 (86mm) and two extended (109mm and 140mm) plant-based coated cards that are compostable and recyclable.

The paperboard used in the current eco range is uniquely sourced from Swedish FSC-certified forests. Magicard went the extra mile to optimise the printing process itself with a dedicated film.

If your company wants to meet ESG goals and reduce their carbon footprint, then consider colourful gift, loyalty, membership, temporary staff ID and event tickets, printed on cards that offer a 57% reduction in carbon emissions (throughout their lifecycle) versus traditional PVC cards.
