Single line encoding

Central data, local print. Full security.

Many enterprises hold sensitive and personal information securely within a protected datacentre. Organisations such as Banks, Retailers and Travel companies need to use some of that data to print cards for customers and employees at a local branch level.

The solution

In order to comply with regulations such as GDPR, the challenge has been to keep that information secure as it is sent from the datacentre to the printer. Single Line Encoding - also known as Single Wire Encoding - allows for data packaged at source to be sent securely from the datacentre to be unpacked at its destination and used by the printer’s application.

The Magicard 600, Magicard 300, 600NEO* and 300NEO* are available as variants with Single Line Encoding capability. This enables encoding over USB, Ethernet or WiFi** using PC/SC APDU commands.

Essentially, the user’s application at source must use Magicard SDK to securely wrap the APDU which is unwrapped by the printer and sent to the encoder.
