VACANCY: Senior Quality Engineer

The Senior Quality Engineer will lead the drive for improvement in all Quality and product compliance matters.

Reporting to the Operations Director, the successful candidate will assist in delivering business wide continuous improvement, through developing robust processes, leveraging Lean/Six Sigma techniques. This is a wide ranging and varied role within a busy electromechanical design and manufacturing business. The job holder will be expected to be equally comfortable in resolving administrative-related quality issues as well as shopfloor manufacturing/component related issues.

Primary duties

  • Maintain the company’s certification to ISO9001:2015.
    • Creation and management of the ISO9001 Internal audit schedule. Perform audits, report and ensure timely resolution of any corrective actions against the schedule.
    • Run periodic Management Reviews
  • Handle External Audits – routine UL checks, CCC Factory Inspection and BSI ISO9001 Surveillance Audits.
  • Facilitate resolution of quality and process related issues. This may require forming/leading temporary improvement teams as required.
  • Establish and maintain quality acceptance standards and be the arbiter of marginal decisions.
  • Seek to develop beyond ISO9001 – e.g. Business Excellence, EFQM.
  • Oversee a small quality department. Coach and mentor the other more junior team members – creating the opportunity for them to develop and thrive.
  • Establish and manage robust Supplier Quality processes.
  • Establish, maintain and report key Quality metrics to provide a management dashboard of overall performance and early identification of trends.
  • Acquire and maintain regional product approvals ensuring Magicard remains compliant and legal. This is critical to ensure the go to market is not compromised in any region.
  • Supply Customers with product compliance data as requested – DofC, CofC, CofO, REACH, RoHS etc. Liaise with Corporate to ensure legal compliance with REACH, RoHS and California Prop65.

Person Specification

  • Process driven
  • Familiarity with common quality improvement tools including methods for problem solving and establishing root cause.
  • An appreciation of common Lean manufacturing techniques, in particular Value Stream Mapping, Kaizen and 5S
  • Ideally Six Sigma Green Belt or higher
  • Ideally ISO9001 Lead Auditor qualified
  • Good understanding of materials compliance – RoHS, REACH etc desirable.
  • Comfortable with data manipulation with MS Excel or ideally Minitab.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills. Clear, concise communicator, both verbal and written
  • Hands-on, lead from the front, roll sleeves up as necessary.
  • Possess the charisma and persuasive skills to affect change – win hearts and minds.
  • Good personal organisation, time management and prioritisation skills.
  • Presentable – Supplier and occasionally customer facing
